A Different Kind of Iron
Use golf tools that offer a good balance of versatility and performance. Golf wedges have a high club face angle. They are usually used close to the green and come in four main types that can be used in different conditions. Some golfers find it beneficial to carry combinations or even all four types of wedges:
- the pitching golf wedge is used for shots with a little more distance to them
- the sand golf wedge has a high bounce angle which is ideal for shots from deep rough or bunkers
- the lob wedge is used for short, very high shots with a lot of backspin
- the gap wedge fills in the large gap in loft or club face angle between a sand wedge and a pitching wedge
