Among the different protective coverings used in playing the paintball, face covers are the most important. A paintball mask shields the eyes from the ball. They are designed to absorb direct shots. Most masks will completely cover the whole face and ears. Others find this cumbersome and prefer to wear only goggles that protect the eyes.

A paintball mask can be made of different materials. The more common ones are rubber, plastic or foam. Look for certain features in a good quality paintball mask. The lens system should be able to effect quick lens change when required by the playing conditions. The outside of the mask should be fairly solid around the mouth and nose area protecting from any direct hit. It should feel comfortable.
